Twenty students were introduced to the University community as part of the third annual Spartan Alliance cohort during a ceremony held on campus Tuesday night.听

Students in the cohort were selected based on nominations from high school counselors and will receive a four-year scholarship plus room and board.听

鈥淢y family doesn鈥檛 have to carry the burden of taking out any loans or having to pay for my school, I made it all on my own,鈥� said Nina Brewster. 鈥淚 did the hard work and I鈥檓 setting a standard for everyone that comes after me.鈥澨�

To Berenice Antonio-Godinez, being a part of the Spartan Alliance cohort means making her mark and starting her journey with the mentorship of past cohorts.听

At the ceremony, Caden Raymond 鈥�28, member of the inaugural Spartan Alliance cohort and current Student Government President, spoke.听

His advice to the new students? 听

鈥淪ay yes to opportunities and get involved early,鈥� he said.听

鈥淪partan Alliance gives you access to incredible people, resources and experiences, but it's up to you to take advantage of them,鈥� Raymond said. 鈥淕o to events, introduce yourself to people, apply for leadership positions, ask questions and do not be afraid to step out of your comfort zone.鈥澨�

Nidley Stfort hopes to connect with people in a meaningful way during his first year at 一本道ampa 鈥� 鈥淚鈥檓 a lovely guy and I want to be able to meet new people,鈥� he said.听

Thomas Witherspoon, vice president of access and community programs, said all of the students in Spartan Alliance are intelligent, hardworking and dedicated to their pursuit of higher education.听听

鈥淭hese students demonstrate strong academic records, a commitment to community service and a respect for supporting others on their educational journeys,鈥� he said.听

鈥淚 suggest that students in this program embark on an unforgettable journey, take an intriguing course, befriend people from different backgrounds, leverage our advanced technology, and gain professional experience with our career partners.鈥澨�
